Wind touches my skin,
and I shiver as winter
unravels my clothes.
I hear souls howling
through the trees in search of fruits
now out of their reach.
The decaying pelt
of once succulent berries –
dried and unwanted.
Frigid ice and cold
crush and numb this whirling pain –
a storm that must end.
Bones press against flesh
as death’s claws spread my rib cage –
filling up my heart.
As always Rose’s illustration of the poem is indeed brilliant…and vice versa…great team you two.

This is stripped down, stark and beautiful. Just the way I like ’em. The second haiku is my favourite; you really have a way of painting pictures with words. The illustration is a great match.

My, I swooned reading your first sentence. Haha!! Ah, my fingers are trembling as I type. 😁 I appreciate your attention and words! The second haiku is my favorite, too. Thanks so much, Oggy. 🌹

People are like berries, and one day we all become unwanted…or bird food.

Yes, my poem was touching upon that. Ha! Not so much the bird food bit. The dried berries represent the natural decaying of life and relationships.

Oh, right, that’s what I thought. I suppose becoming bird food is also a real possibility — vultures gotta eat! Haha.

That’s true, Fly! I didn’t think of it in those terms.

An excellent set of Haiku.
Did you both work on them?

Hi Alan! I wrote the poems. Fly formatted my illustration (he does an amazing job of tweaking it so it looks more polished). Thank you!😊

These are very chilly. And winter is a dirty old man/woman. He/she should keep their hands off your clothes.

Lol. Winter signifies death which extends deeper than all the superficial stuff and throttles the soul. I like your version, though.

Chilling haiku. I might remember it when I walk a narrow path through the brambles in a cold winter day, all alone 😉
