Lies Behind Your Smile

What lies behind your smile?
Not always sweetness
or gentle thoughts.
With teeth flashing
like a blade of a knife,
what you cannot hear
in ones furtive mind,
saves you from feeling fraught.

She speaks with a voice
of an angel –
with lightness of words
tucked in feathers of wings.
Yet look closely
at those plumes and see,
they hide many
of her worst demons.

  1. Your poem reminds me of an ex of mine. The illustration is interesting; the angel seems to be clutching herself as if her lies are hurting her as badly as everyone else. I like the attitude of the little demon flipping off everyone. He must be union.

    1. Yikes! I’m glad she’s now an ex. That must’ve been hell making out with her with demons at her back (excuse the pun!). 😈
Thanks! I drew the psychotic angel, and Fly created the cool background. Ha! The puckish demon was fun to draw. He seems overly cocky and ya, must be unionized. 👺

  2. Ooohhh..i can totally relate to this poem Rose..I am always told…”you look so damn innocent, but gosh…they just don’t know there’s so much devil behind that angelic face”…

We can never really know what lies behind..

  3. Demons are not kin to easy
    They like it hard
    And firm to the touch
    Ice cubes in hell
    Washing behind the rears
    Mindless Twit
    Rising smoke from still waters
Finger nails pearce the palm of their hands
    What a demon is
    Never tells
    Speaks in tongues
And relays on no one else
